Statutory Deduction Adjustments

Australia

Several deductions have been provided to allow you to adjust the totals of PAYG, HECS and ETP tax. These deductions, 'PAYG Adjustment', 'HECS adjustment' and 'Lump Sum A Tax Adjustment', 'Lump Sum B Tax Adjustment' and 'Lump Sum C Tax Adjustment', are intended primarily for use during a mid-year start up, when you need to enter values already processed on your old system. However, they can be used at any time to adjust the statutory deduction totals.

For example, if an ex-student wants to pay an extra $10 dollars each pay period towards their HECS debt in addition to the automatic HECS calculation, you could add the HECS deduction to their Calculation screen with a cash amount of $10. The $10 will be added to the standard HECS deduction calculated by the system.

United Kingdom

You can enter a cash over-ride amount by editing any of the statutory deduciton pay items and that will over-ride the system calculation of the pay item.

If you need to adjust National Insurance totals because an incorrect NI category was used to make deductions, you will need to add a separate adjustment pay for each NI category because in Kwik-pay a pay can only be associated with a single NI category. For example, if an employee give you an incorrect birth date or retirement date, and you made payments using an incorrect NI category, after changing the NI category in the employee details screen, tax conditions tab, you should add an adjustment pay for the employee, to reduce the totals for the payments made using the incorrect NI category. In the adjustment pay, add an NI employer contribution with the cash override set to a negative value equal to the total of NI employer contributions calculated using the incorrect category, and if necessary add a NI employee deduciton for the total of NI employee deductions wronly categorised. In the same adjustment pay screen, click the More button, and then the Misc button on the next form and change the NI category to the category being reduced. In the same form, add an NILEL item with the total to be subtracted from the income up to LEL, an NIET item for the income between LEL and ET, and NIUAP item for the income between ET and UAP and a NIUEL item foe the income between UAP and UEL. You only need add those items with a non-zero value. To make the adjustment easier to follow, you should add a second adjustment pay with the contra values for the correct NI category, and leave the normal pay to calculate the correct NI for the period.
