Statutory Pay (United Kingdom only)
Each type of Statutory Pay, SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP and SPPA is defined in Kwik-Pay Payroll as a separate pay item. They differ from the normal processing of pay items in Kwik-Pay in that they cannot be entered directly in the pay calculation screen. Instead, they have to be added to the employee's standard pay tab in their employee details screen. Each spell of leave is added as a new standard pay item.
When Kwik-Pay adds the statutory pay item to the employee's pay, it adds a separate pay item for each week of the absence, with the start and end dates set to the beginning and end of that week. For SSP, it will split a week across pay periods, paying the required number of days in each pay period. However, for all other statutory pay, it only pays whole weeks in the pay period. The default is to pay in advance, so that the absence week is paid in the pay period in which the start date falls. However, if the absence is to be paid in arrears, you can add a property to the pay item to change it's behaviour: select view, setup, pay items to edit the pay item and add a miscellaneous property called 'PayInArrears' and set it's value to true. The next time you open a pay period and pay the statutory payment, the item will be paid in arrears, so that the absence weeks are only included in the pay period if the end date of the absence weeks falls within the pay period.
Statutory Sick Pay - SSP
When you add a new Statutory Sick Pay spell to the standard pay tab, you will be required to enter a start date and if the employee has returned to work, a stop date. Leave the other fields blank.
Statutory Maternity Pay and Statutory Paternity Pay - SMP & SPP
When you add a new Statutory Maternity Pay spell to the standard pay tab, you will be required to enter a start date and if the employee has returned to work, a stop date, and also the date the baby is due. When the baby has been born, return to this pay item and update the birth date.
Statutory Adoption Pay and Statutory Paternity Pay (Adoption) - SAP & SPPA
When you add a new Statutory Adoption Pay spell to the standard pay tab, you will be required to enter a start date and if the employee has returned to work, a stop date, and also the date the adoption was matched and the date the baby is expected. When the baby has been placed, return to this pay item and update the placed date.
